Lawrence "Larry" Yeo Obituary

Medway and Millinocket, Maine - Larry passed away on July 27, 2025, at his son's home in Stockton Springs, with his family by his side. He was born in Richmond, Prince Edward Island, Canada, on March 24, 1933. The family moved to Maine in 1936.

He had a long and varied career. He started going to work in the woods with his father at age 11. At age 14, he was a water boy and helped build Canada Falls Dam. From there he captained the boom jumper on the North Twin chain of lakes. He moved on to be an accomplished welder and a pipe fitter on construction sites all over the northeast, and was the general foreman on many projects. He married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1952, at North Twin. He was past president of Local 321 and a member of the past presidents club. He was also a member of the Millinocket Elks Club Lodge 1521, where he was one time Elk of the Year. He was a voracious reader and always had a book going. Larry like to keep busy. In the springtime there was tending to his fruit trees, by midsummer there were berries to pick, but fall was the time to put up wood for the winter. He got a deep satisfaction from splitting, stacking, and burning of wood for the winter - something he had done since childhood.

He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Bessie (Enman) Yeo; and his siblings, Pauline "Polly" Fowler, Mona Yeo, Eileen McCue, Iris Henry, Bertram (Bert), and John "Jack." He is survived by his wife of almost 73 years, Barbara; his children, Laurie York (John), L. Matthew (Patsy) and Russell (Nicky); his grandchildren, Angela, Jeffrey, Alysha, Adam, Abby, Spencer, Rochelle, and Kasey; great-grandchildren, Banyan, Azalea, Dylan, Aaron, Remington, Natalie, Sophia, Elaina, Hudson, Iris and Emeric; and many nieces and nephews.

One of his favorite things was to be alone in the woods at night with a "jack light." Somewhere there is a game of pitch going on and tall tales are being told.
