Larry Holmquist Obituary
Saco, Maine - Larry Holmquist, devoted husband and father of two, died on March 17, 2022, at the age of 73.
Born in Caribou on August 3, 1948, to Linwood and Geneva Holmquist, he grew up in Westmanland and New Sweden. He graduated from Caribou High School in 1966 and served in the Maine Army National Guard for six years.
He met Rachel Lavoie in 1967. The two wed on May 21, 1971 and were married for more than 50 years. They raised their two children in Caribou, where they lived for 34 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, visiting Madawaska Lake, and spending time with family and friends. He worked in the construction and transportation industries.
In 2004, Larry and Rachel moved to Saco, to be closer to their family. He enjoyed being "Grampy" and loved watching his grandchildren dance and play sports. He lovingly teased them and always put a smile on their faces.
He was a lifelong resident of Maine and whenever he met someone, he made sure to tell them that. He could strike up a conversation with anyone.
He was predeceased by his parents, Linwood and Geneva Holmquist; sister, Coleen Lajoie; and brother-in-law, Keith Roble. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Holmquist of Saco, two children, Mark (Devra) Holmquist of Waterboro, and Melanie (David) Weiss of Newtown, Connecticut; and four grandchildren, Andrew and Audrey Holmquist, and Gabriela and Dylan Weiss. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy Holmquist, Nancy Holmquist Roble and Kris Holmquist.
A memorial service will be held at New Sweden Covenant Church on June 11, 2022, at 11 a.m.
