Hodgdon, Maine - Kenneth Leland Wilson, 78, passed away peacefully October 5, 2025, in Houlton, spending his last days with his beloved family by his side. He was born October 9, 1946, in Hodgdon, the son of Waldo "Pert" and Patrea (Haney) Wilson. His last gift to his family was leaving them with the assurance he would enter the gates of heaven to join his grandson, Taylor Wilson Lynds.
He leaves behind his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Carole Stewart Wilson, marrying November 25, 1965, and sharing 59 years of marriage together.
Kenneth served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War, returning home to work his grandfather's farm, making it his family's home. A true farmer in every sense of the word, from growing potatoes, raising cattle, haying, sewing and harvesting grain, and working in the woods, he worked hard, an example and testament of dedication to his family. He never bought the latest or best equipment, always making do with what he had. He needed just enough to support his family. He taught his children the value of hard work - passing on the same lessons to his grandchildren, teaching them to plant pumpkins to earn extra money. Harvesting was always a family event.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Carole; three children, Kirk (Sheryl) Wilson, Jodie (Steve) Ward, and Kendra (Ritchie) Lynds; seven grandchildren, Kendrick Wilson, Martha (Andrew) Tuttle, Benjamin (Kaitlin) Ward, Brandon (Lauren) Ward, Elizabeth (Alex) Nadeau, Konnor Lynds and friend, Maddison, and Addyson Lynds and friend, Brady; and very special great-grandchildren, Leighton Ward, Riley Ward, and Emery Tuttle. He was looking forward to meeting his 4th great-grandson, Jace; and welcoming many more. He was overheard saying, "grandchildren are special but great-grandchildren are precious." He also leaves behind his siblings, Pam Rhoda, Cindy Wilson, Wanda Cumming, Deb (Ken) Rosel, Reggie (Lauren) Wilson, Lynn (Joel) Oliver, and Alan (Lisa) Wilson; sisters-in-law, Laureen (Steve) Bither and Janene (Rob) Moran; as well as many nieces and nephews, who he always kept tabs on and a continued interest in their lives. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Taylor Wilson Lynds; brothers, Gary and Roger Wilson; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gene and Doreen Stewart.
Special thanks to all of the providers who cared for Kenny over these many years, as well as the nurses, doctors and staff at Houlton Regional Hospital, who provided comfort during his last days.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Hodgdon Cemetery, Walker Road, Hodgdon, with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating.
