Katherine F. Watson
Kathy was born on February 5, 1936, in Skowhegan, Maine, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Leakos. She received her business degree from the Skowhegan Business School, and married John Watson on January 21, 1961.
Kathy met her husband, John, at Sugarloaf. An avid skier, she passed that joy along to her whole family, and she loved spending time with her family and friends at their camps in Maine and looked forward to their annual family vacation in Florida.
In the 1980's, Kathy started a successful business to perform contract work on bridges and roads throughout Maine to furnish and install reinforcing steel and highway signs as well as bridge railing. She proudly owned and operated the Kathy Watson Co. for over a decade.
Her favorite hobby was politics, which she first got involved in by promoting grassroots campaigns in Presque Isle, Maine. She was elected to serve as Chairman of the Maine Republican Party in 1998, eventually retiring in 2004. During her tenure as Chairman she managed to pay off sizeable back debt and purchased a headquarters building in Augusta still used by the party.
She is survived by her husband, John Watson of Pittsfield; daughters, Anna Watson Peterson and husband, Steven of Pittsfield, Susan Watson Morton and husband, Jason of Pittsfield and Kristen Watson of Gorham; grandchildren, Forrest Peterson, Jesse Peterson, Peter Peterson, Jonathan Sturdee, Sophia Sturdee, Zebadiah Sturdee, Sydney Morton and John Morton; great-grandchild, Jocelyn Compton; brother, Stephen Leakos of Skowhegan; and her grand pups, Ozzy, Sharon and Hazel.
She was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Evelyn Barker and Lucia Tewksbury, and Lucia's husband Paul Tewksbury.
Kathy is loved and remembered by her adoring family, and was an inspiration to many. She will be missed by all.
