Bangor, Maine - Katherine Louise MacDonald Cook, passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on January 11, 2026, at Ross Manor in Bangor, Maine. Born May 1939 in Eastport, Maine, Katherine was the daughter of James E. MacDonald and Mabel E. Stevens MacDonald.
On January 19, 1958, Katherine married David L. Cook Sr., a partnership that lasted nearly seven decades until David's passing in November 2025, just two months shy of their 68th wedding anniversary. After retirement, they relocated to the Bangor area but always considered Eastport their true home. Katherine loved children and dedicated many years to working and teaching at Eastport Elementary School. The friendships she formed with her colleagues there endured throughout her life. In addition to enjoying time with family, Katherine enjoyed sewing, playing bingo with friends, and making homemade holiday candy that became a treasured tradition among family and friends. Her Needhams were legendary, and none more so than the special batch she made for Meg and Josh's wedding favors. Lots of extra Nana love went into that batch.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathy Ann Magoon and husband, Timothy, of Old Town; her son, David L. Cook Jr. and wife, Gaye Lynn, of Whitney, Texas; granddaughters, Megan Randlett and husband, Joshua, of Hampden, and Sarah Barr and husband, Wade, of Texas; grandson, Trey Cook of Texas; and great-granddaughters, Olivia Craft Barr, Hannah Katherine Randlett, and Sadie Rachel Randlett. Katherine is also survived by her brother, Walter MacDonald and wife, Mary, of Uxbridge, MA; and sister-in-law, Lorene Cook of Georgia; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband; brothers, Raymond MacDonald (Lois), James MacDonald Jr. (Ann), and Thomas MacDonald; sister, Thelma Hatt Mullen; father-in-law, Frederick E. Cook; mother-in-law, Jane L. Clement Cook; and brother-in-law, Frederick W. Cook (Christa).
A joint graveside service for both Katherine and David will be held in spring 2026 at Bayside Cemetery in Eastport. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Ross Manor and Beacon Hospice for the care they provided to both Katherine and David.
