Ellsworth, Maine - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of June Knight Carter, in Brewer, on April 30, 2025, at the age of 88. June was born on March 30, 1937, to Elwood "Buster" and Rebecca (Cousins) Knight in Stonington. She also graduated from Stonington High School, class of 1955.
June then continued her education at The University of Maine where she received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. June began her professional career teaching English and History at Deer Isle High School and then continued at Deer Isle-Stonington High School, John Bapst, and completed her professional life teaching at The University of Maine in the Onward Program. June held a passion for theater and enjoyed performing at the Surry Opera House. She also enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader, her favorite author being Paul Dorion. June married Ronald G. Carter in 1963, and they shared 3 sons.
June was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ronald G. Carter; and brother, Robert "Bobby" Knight. June is survived by her three sons, Glen Carter (Anita Madden), Elwood Carter, and Mark Carter (Bridget West). She is also survived by her sister, Helene Knight Whitehouse, as well as grandchildren, Maegan Villanueva, Jordan Carter, and Catherine Berry (Greg), and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Alex, Kennedy, Olivia, Sadie, and Carter.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Hillside Cemetery, North Bend Road, Surry. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
