Patten, Maine - Joyce A. Shorey Harvey, 90, died peacefully on March 10, 2025, at Penobscot Valley Hospital with her daughters by her side. She was born in Burlington, ME, to Archie Shorey and Miranda Sibley Curtis Shorey on February 26, 1935.
Joyce grew up in Burlington, always telling stories of playing with her brothers and sister on Saponac Lake. She moved with her family to Patten in 1951, and graduated from Patten Academy in 1952. She met her husband, Robert "Bob" Harvey, and they married on July 26, 1952, and settled in Patten. Joyce was first and foremost a homemaker and mother. She loved to cook, and no one could leave without taking something home with them. She worked for several years at Ken & Jeff's Market, then Ellis Family Market. She attended Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the Women's Club. After moving to Enfield, they attended the Word of God Fellowship Church in Burlington, where she felt like she had gone back home with all her "cousins." Joyce was famous for her witty, sometimes slightly off-color remarks that left everyone in stitches. Even to the end, she was making us all laugh.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert "Bob" Harvey; her daughters, Carol and husband, Danny Curtis, of Benedicta, Jean and her husband, Ed Noyes, of Patten, and son, Roger Harvey of Milford. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Adam and Carrie Curtis, Dawn and Kevin Geroux, Alysia and Jason Edwards, Erica Oliphant, and Gregory and Angela Noyes; as well as her adored 11 great-grandchildren, Jasmine Nightingale, Krista Edwards, Melody Curtis, Rebecca Edwards, Aliyah Curtis, Spencer Oliphant, Alex Curtis, Marli Fournier, William Oliphant, Emma Edwards, and Lilian Noyes. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Beverly Shorey Cole, Rena Shorey, and Esther Harvey; and many nieces and nephews, who were so special to her. She will also be missed by her cousin-in-law, Barbara Porter, whom she talked to almost every day. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Charles Curtis, Ralph Curtis, Archie Shorey Jr., Lawrence Shorey, Glenwood Shorey, and Delmon Shorey; sisters, Geraldine Curtis Harriman, Vienna Curtis Tucker Ward, Clara Shorey, and Viola Shorey Scales; her grandson, Christopher Curtis; and special cousins and best friends, Jackie Palmer and Annette Noyes.
The family would like to thank Colonial Health Care for the wonderful care she received while living there for the past two years, as well as the staff at Penobscot Valley Hospital in the last months.
A graveside service will be held at a later date with a reception after.
