Joseph Richard Hunt Obituary

Bangor, Maine - Joseph Richard Hunt, 62, of Bangor died Nov. 21, 2017 of lung cancer. He was born in Bangor, one of five children of June and Lyman Hunt. His Maine roots were deep- the Hunt Trail on Katahdin is named for his family's farm. After Bangor High, he got a B. A. from what was then called "U. M. O." and went to work as Town Manager in Jackman, then being the youngest Town Manager in the State. He went on to Law School at the University of Kansas, returning to Maine to practice law until recently. Most people who stuttered would have been afraid to try cases before juries, but Joseph did it and did it well. Material success evaded him. His good friend Jimmy Puiia, said "He did a lot of good for an awful lot of people, and never charged a nickel." He was happy to officiate at weddings, for which many are grateful.

Joseph was born with a paddle in his hand, and was never more at home than at the family camp on Pleasant River Lake in Beddington. He was overly fond of fishing and shooting partridge, and could row a boat like no other.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Lyman, Jr. and Jonathan; his niece, Laura; and his wife, Casey. He is survived by his sister, Johanna of Lake Worth, FL; his brother William of Dublin, Ireland; and his nieces, Catherine of Strasbourg, France, Emily of London, England and Carin of Dublin, Ireland.

At his request there will be no service. He would have said to send the money you might have spent on flowers to the Shaw house in Bangor. Special thanks to the caregivers at Brewer Rehabilitation Center for their kindness to Joseph in his last days.
