Hampden, Maine - John W. Torrance III, 83, of Hampden, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Joseph Hospital on August 27, 2025. He was born in Brockton, Mass., on May 17, 1942, son of the late John and Mary (Clark) Torrance II.

John worked at Evans-Hampden Shoe as vice president and general manager for 36 years. John and his wife owned and operated Hampden Video & Variety in 1990. They moved the store to Winterport and operated for eight years. During that time, John graduated from Eastern Maine Technical College in electricians technology in 1994. He worked at Frost's Garage for eight years. John was a dedicated member of Hampden Kiwanis for 52 years and served as their long-term club secretary. He was a member of the Masons, 100 Neighbors Club, and Camp Capella. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his family at camp on Brewer Lake.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores; his children, Tanya Torrance, Dorene Paradis and spouse, Tim, Theresa Drew and partner, Francis Larrabee, and Clarence Drew Jr. and spouse, Holly; sister, Dee Robinson and spouse, Frank; grandchildren, Shana Larrabee and partner, Casey Gomm, Kristen Drew, Ethan Paradis, and Lucien Paradis; great-granddaughter, Ivy Palmer; special brother-in-law, Stanley Bowden and spouse, Lee; sister-in-law, Donna Soper; several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall on the Canoe Road in Hampden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hampden Kiwanis, P.O. Box 148, Hampden, ME 04444.
