John "Jack" Palmer Obituary

Hermon, Maine - John "Jack" Palmer, 86, passed away on August 9, 2024, at his home in Hermon, with his wife and daughter by his side. Jack was born on March 2, 1938, in Bangor.

Jack's work history included working at the Eastern Pulp Mill for 6 years, then retiring from the Bangor Daily News after 37 years of service. He loved his family and the many pet companions they had through the years. Jack enjoyed collecting guns, target shooting and harness racing. Jack and Sonya were long standing customers of the Cold Brook Road Dysart's Restaurant. As a result of these (almost) daily visits, they made many friends, some who were like family. You may also remember Jack and Sonya from the Dysart's "buttery, flaky crust" ad, promoting their famous chicken pot pie. Jack's presence on this earth will be missed by many.

Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sonya; daughter, Barbara Miller and her husband, Don; grandsons, Russell Graves and John Graves; great-grandson, Jaxon Graves; siblings, Tom Lear, Arthur Lear, Diane Edgarton and Theresa Dionne; brother-in-law, Bobby Laing; special nieces and nephews, Susan and Brent Cullen and their son, Caleb Cullen, Nancy and Tom Duff, Debbie and Billie Washington and Billy Gardiner; and special friends, John and Holly, Brown, Darlene Young, Betty Schoers, Sandy and Jerry Burgoin, Faye Cyr, Mary Hartt, Melanie, Pauline, Lynette, Sada, Elaine, Kim, Jay and the remainder of their extended Dysart's family.

Those who wish to remember Jack in a special way may make a donation in his memory to a humane society of their choice. Per Jack's request, there will be no services.
