Presque Isle, Maine - Joanne Thompson went peacefully to the spirit in the sky on March 7, 2025, at the Aroostook House of Comfort. She was born April 5, 1941, in Auburn, Maine, to Rosetta and Emile Elie. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1960 and Aroostook State Teachers College now known as UMPI.

She was predeceased by her husband, James; her parents, Emile and Rosetta Elie; her brother, Emile; and her sister, Rolande Coombs. She is survived by her beloved son, Scott and his wife, Tammy and their son, Dylan. She will be greatly missed by close family and many friends.

Joanne was a longtime teacher in the local area. She retired from first grade at Mapleton Elementary School, where she enriched the lives of many students and the people she worked with. Joanne "Did It Her Way!" She wrote, "Those of you who knew me, knew all the many stages of my life; a review is not needed. If you didn't know me, does it matter?" But it does matter. Her bucket list included: "to make every school day fun so kids would want to come to school and learn; to wear the PIHS Wildcat costume at a basketball game; and to make someone laugh every day." It was a short list because Joanne was busy filling others' buckets with love and laughter.

Joanne and family are thankful to AR Gould, EMMC and the House of Comfort for the care and compassion they showed. They certainly brought comfort, respect, and amazing care during her final journey. Per Joanne's request, there will be no service. A private ceremony will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the House of Comfort.
