Hermon, Maine and Lakeland, Fla. - Joanne Earline Leonard (Murphy), 71, of Hermon, Maine and Lakeland, Florida, passed away on September 3, 2016, at a local hospital with her family by her side. She was born on December 7, 1944, to Earl and Josephine Murphy in Portland, Maine.
Joanne graduated from Hampden Academy in 1963. She married Edward Leonard on April 17, 1964, and in 1972, they adopted their son, Mark. In her earlier years, she was a stay-at-home mom and later worked for Irving Oil and retired from L.L. Bean.
Joanne looked forward to traveling with the love of her life, Ed, but she most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Logan and Alexis. In her free time she would knit and make crafts which she donated to the Frankfort Congregational Church where she and Ed attended. Joanne was also a long-standing member of the Hermon Fire Department ladies auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings, Earl Murphy Jr., Edward Kenney and Alfred Kenney; and a granddaughter, Grace.
She is survived by her husband, son, two grandchildren, three sisters and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.
At her request, no funeral services will be held but a special memorial service will be held at the Frankfort Congregational Church on September 25, 2016 at 200PM located at 42 Main Road, South Frankfort, Maine.
A private interment will be held at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta, Maine at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Frankfort Congregational Church's Steeple Fund, PO Box 38 Frankfort, Maine 04438.
