Augusta - Joan "Joanie" Maria Hadley, 54, passed away unexpectedly in Augusta in July 2019. Joan was born on a Saturday, March 27, 1965, in Bangor, Maine and was quickly adopted by Alton Hadley and Linda Mundy Hadley, who were anticipating her arrival.
In her early years growing up in Brewer, Joan enjoyed reading, the arts, and writing poetry. She was always the one to make sure her siblings used their manners. She graduated from Brewer High School in 1983. Joan gave birth to her first child, Kate Elizabeth, in 1987, and her son, Anthony Stephen, in 1990. She worked in department stores throughout her early adulthood, and in her late thirties was certified as a CNA. She loved animals, going for long walks, and visiting with her children.
Joan is survived by her father, Alton Hadley of Scarborough; daughter, Kate Bernatche and partner Emily, of Seattle; son, Anthony Bernatche and his wife Leah, of Bangor, parents of grandson, Samson; father of her children, Tony Bernatche; brother, Christopher Hadley and his wife Terri, of Manchester NH; sister, Jennifer Marquis and her husband Matt, of Standish; brother, Mike and his wife Kallie, of Weare NH; and brother, Sean of Scarborough.
The family will be celebrating her life privately and ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) or the Bangor Maine Humane Society.
