Old Town - Jean Paul Ouellette, 73, passed away unexpectedly April 28, 2019, as a result of a car accident after spending a weekend in Northern Maine, the home of his heart, at an ACTS Retreat.
Jean was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 8, 1945, to Joseph O. Ouellette, and Lillian B. (Michaud) Ouellette. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and soon to be Pepe to his first grandchild. He was so excited to finally be a Pepe.
Jean retired from Eastern Maine Medical Center at the age of 62 after surviving the rare disease amyloidosis, but spent most of his career as a salesman. Jean was very social, cared for people, and loved to talk which made him successful in his career as a salesman.
Jean had many talents, but the two things he loved to do most was singing, and woodworking. After retiring in 2008, he joined the Black Bear Men's Chorus, where he met and made many friends, young and not so young. He shared his love of music with his son Jeff, even though they liked different genres. Jean, like his Dad, loved to work with wood, and on any given day could be found in his woodworking shop where he spent many hours.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Ouellette) Ouellette of nearly 50 years; son Jeff, and his wife, Christina; step-granddaughter, Belle-Elise Haskell; and soon to be grandson, Harris Edmund. Jean married into a large family, and had the pleasure of being welcomed and loved by all. Sisters-in-law, Theresa Reynolds, and Deborah Small, and her husband, David; brothers-in-law, Thomas and Michael Ouellette, and his wife, Kathy. He was especially blessed with many nieces and nephews, and cousins. For three years he had the joy of being in the presence of a great-niece and great-nephew, Meledore Joy Small, and Levi Joseph Emerson, who brought sunshine into his life.
He was predeceased by his parents; his only sibling, Raymond Ouellette; brother-in-law, Alan Reynolds; sister-in-law, Theresa (Raymond) Ouellette; mother and father-in law; and many special uncles and aunts.
Adieu, my husband. I will love you forever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Monday, May 6, 2019, at Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, Old Town. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Interment with military honors will be conducted at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery , Augusta on May 15, 2019, at 12:00 Noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Orphanage, P.O. Box 565, Orono, ME 04473.

Barbara, I'm so sorry to hear about Jean. I would have never met either of you if not for our mutual friend, Peggy, who will see Jean on the other side. I liked you both immediately and am thankful I had the opportunity to meet and get to know both of you. Our world lost a wonderful man. I cannot imagine the incredible sadness and void you must feel. I hope the memories of your almost 50 years together and his love will comfort you until you meet again. In the meantime, see the pieces of him that will live on in your soon to-be-born grandson. HUGS!!!!

I am the Director of the ACTS Retreat that Jean was on, what a special men. When he entered the room, his smile lit it up. What a great singer! I had a few moments throughout the weekend to sit and talk with him and so enjoyed his stories. I am so sorry for your loss. That seems so small a statement to say for such a wonderful man. I do know that I am a better person for having had a chance to meet him and spend some time with him. May the peace of Christ be with you and your family not just through these trying days but forever.
