Wartrace, Tennessee - Janet passed from this life on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in her home surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. Janet was born in Bangor, Maine, on October 13, 1959, to Margaret Louise (Wasson) and Philip Hanson King.

She graduated from Brewer High School in 1978. After graduation she married her high school sweetheart, John Smith of Brewer. They had two sons, Adam and Bryan. Janet, John, and the boys later relocated to Tennessee, where Janet went on to build a successful career as a supervisor in the auto parts manufacturing industry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Smith; and brother-in-law, Peter Phelan. She is survived by her sons, Bryan and Adam Smith of Tennessee; siblings, Patricia Phelan and Philip King of Wartrace, Tennessee, Doris Richardson of Clover, Virginia, Joanne Hillman and Joyce Leland of Dedham, Maine, and Donna Ashe of Bangor, Maine; and her many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal funeral services.
