Monroe - MONROE - Jane T. (Schaefer) Lawson went to be with her husband, George, March 2, 2013, after a valiant fight with cancer. Jane was born in 1929, in Jersey City, N.J., the youngest of five children.
Jane worked as a telephone operator before marrying her one and only. Together they raised three children, and shared a wonderful life. She was at her best when spending time with her family at holidays and sharing family traditions with them. She was very proud of going back to school to get her diploma. Jane enjoyed her 17 years of service as a foster grandparent at Monroe Elementary School, where she was better known as "Grammy Lawson," and each and every child captured a piece of her huge heart. Jane received recognition from President Bush, Gov. Baldacci and Congressman Mike Michaud for her years of community service. She has many dear friends that she could always count on.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Lawson of Pensacola, Fla.; sons, Daniel Lawson and wife, Patricia, of Monroe, and Martin Lawson and wife, Karen, of Lexington Park, Md.; special son-in-law, Michael Horigan of Standish; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and special niece, Martha Cancellieri and husband, Dominic, of Brick, N.J. She was predeceased by her parents, Jane and Herbert; husband, George; brothers, Frank, Herbert and Bernard; special sister-in-law, Dolly; special brother-in-law, Martin; and sister, Agnes "Pat."
Friends and family will gather for visitation 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Monroe Community Church, 26 West Main St., Monroe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Waldo County Hospice, 119 Northport Ave., Belfast, ME 04915. www.mitchelltweedie-young.com
