James Richard McCleary


Old Orchard Beach - James Richard (Jim) McCleary, 75, husband of Linda R. McCleary, passed away July 26, 2018, at Maine Medical Center, following a nearly 40-year battle with diabetes. Jim was born February 3, 1943, in Mars Hill, Maine, to Richard J. and Madeline (Allen) McCleary.
He was educated in Bridgewater, Maine, schools and graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy in 1961. Jim was accepted into an apprentice program at Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut. One month into the program, he and Linda were married. Ultimately Jim and Linda moved home and Jim joined his father on the family farm for nine years. For the following nine years the family lived on the Aldermere Farm at Rockport, Maine, assisting with the farming of Belted Galloways. After leaving Rockport, Jim drove trailer truck, and did carpentry, all the time struggling to adjust to his newly diagnosed diabetes. Jim later trained to operate a wood fired high pressure boiler and worked for J.P. Levesque until his retirement in 2000.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; a son, James B. McCleary, in 1996; his brother-in-law, Vaughn Holyoke of Brewer, ME; brothers, Roland and Herbert McCleary of Washington state; and brother-in-law, Richard Huntley, of Charleston, ME. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Huntley) McCleary of Old Orchard Beach, ME; sister, Marjorie Holyoke, of Brewer, ME, brother-in-law, David Huntley and David's wife, Robyn; as well as sister-in Law, Carolyn Huntley. Jim is also survived by daughter, Cathleena White, her husband, Robert and sons, Chad Dow, his sons, Tucker and Calvin and significant other, Keri, and daughter, Kaylee, Brandon White, significant other, Diana and Zachary White, Carla Lafortune, her husband, Kevin and son, Alex and daughter, Bobby Rose. Jim is also survived by his daughter, Jamie McCleary, significant other, Denis and son, Joshua Michaud, significant other, Ginny, and daughter, Zoe. Jim is additionally survived by son, Matthew McCleary, Matt's wife, Kendra, his sons, Regan and Aidan, and daughter, Fiona. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jim's family was special to him and he enjoyed times everyone got together for a meal or just to visit. Jim was also an outdoorsman, whose favorite place to be was in the woods, and most especially the North Maine Woods.
There will be no formal services but Jim's ashes will be committed to the family plot in Smith Cemetery in Bridgewater at a later date.
