James A. DeWitt Obituary

Bangor, Maine - James A. DeWitt, 94, husband of Gwen (Riggs) Stratton DeWitt, passed on July 8, 2026, in Bangor. He was born on October 23, 1931, in Brownington, Vermont, the son of Kenneth DeWitt. He was predeceased by his mother as a very young child.

Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in helicopter squadron HS1. He served from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean War. He spent most of his career as a grocery salesman. Jim was a natural people-person, making friends wherever he went. After their retirement, he and Gwen spent many years traveling in their RV along the back roads of our country.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Gwen of Bangor, is one daughter, Kathy Kowalski and her husband, Paul; Cory Stratton; Winfield Stratton; Alan Stratton and his wife Ann Marie; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Alan DeWitt and James DeWitt.
