Hollis D. Smith Obituary

Birch Harbor, Maine - Hollis D. Smith passed away Dec. 23, 2025. He was born July 27, 1945, at home in Winter Harbor, Maine, to Walter S. Smith Jr. and Rae G. Smith.

He attended schools in Winter Harbor, and Sumner High School, class of 1964. Hollis grew up in Winter Harbor doing all jobs involving the ocean and was a hunting guide for a time. He also spent time living in Aurora and Osborn, harvesting wood, making cement blocks, and was a lineman for Union River coop. for 18 years. He returned to his beloved coast in Birch Harbor in 1995 to be a lobsterman, searching for the Golden Lobster. After retiring he went to work at DLK Clam Shop. A job he loved.

He was predeceased by his parents; and sister-in-law, JoAnne Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Ellen (Shorey) Smith; sons, Hollis "Dean" Smith (Tammy) and Craig E. Smith (Emily); daughter, Holly R. Smith; brother, Everett Smith of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Hannah Smith (Nickey), Ian Smith, Taylor Smith (Jack), Garrett Smith (Haley), Ashley Smith, and Elizabeth Smith; two great-grandsons, Ledger and Henry Smith; nieces and nephews; and many special friends, too many to name.

A celebration of life will be held on 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Masons Hall in Winter Harbor.
