DUNLAP, Tenn. - Helen B. Mooers, 85, formerly of Orono and Durham, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Tennessee, after a long illness. Mrs. Mooers was born Feb. 4, 1926, in LaTuque, Quebec, daughter of the late Warren B. and Bernice (Bailey) Beckler. She was married to H. Brian Mooers Sr., Sept. 3, 1949, in LaTuque, Quebec. Mrs. Mooers graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, with a Bachelor of Science degree in registered nursing in 1949. She worked in several capacities as a registered nurse, in a physician's office in Orono, as a teacher at St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Bangor, and at Orono Nursing Home, among others. Helen was a member of United Methodist Church, Lisbon Falls. During the summer months prior to her illness, she stayed on Orr's Island and affiliated with Orr's-Bailey Island Methodist Church. She was admirably skilled at many crafts and enjoyed gardening as a hobby. Helen was predeceased by her husband, H. Brian Mooers Sr. She leaves behind her three children, H. Brian Mooers Jr. and his wife, Glennis, of Barrington, N.H., Martha M. Nevola and her husband, Charles, of Cranston, R.I., and Jennifer L. Mooers of Pikeville, Tenn.; two sisters, Caroline B. Doolittle of Littleton, Mass., and Judith Baggett of Topsham; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Crosman Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at United Methodist Church, 19 School St., Lisbon Falls. Interment will be held in the spring. A service of Crosman Funeral Home Cremation and Monument Services, 40 Main St., Lisbon Falls.
