Helen Burdick-Heilman

Prospect Harbor - Helen Burdick-Heilman, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at her home in Prospect Harbor with her daughter and caregiver Rosemary by her side.
Helen was born on December 9, 1928, the only child of Mary and Vincent DiDonatantonio. Helen lived with her family in the Italian community of South Philadelphia and attended the South Philadelphia High School for Girls. After graduation in 1945, Helen wed WWII naval veteran Chief Petty Officer George Burdick. Helen and George lived briefly in Brooklyn, New York. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Helen and George returned to live with Helen's mother Mary in South Philadelphia.
During their almost 40 years in South Philadelphia, Helen worked for Philadelphia Modeling and Charm School, and then Bell Telephone until her retirement in 1984.
George served as a Philadelphia police officer, and then an automobile dealer.
The Burdick family enjoyed vacationing in Maine. In 1964, Helen and George purchased a house in Prospect Harbor, and spent many summer vacations over the next few years restoring the house. After Helen's retirement, Helen, George and Helen's mother Mary moved to Prospect Harbor to make it their permanent home. Helen and Mary continued to reside in Prospect Harbor after George passed away in 1986. For the next 33 years, Helen became a fixture of the community.
Helen sang with the choir at the Prospect Harbor Methodist Church. She was active in the local Women's Club, and served a term as president. Helen was also a secretary for the Hospice of Hancock County. She was both an avid reader, especially People Magazine, and a lover of animals, caring for four rescue dogs over the years. She made many close friends who appreciated her loyalty and trustworthiness.
In 1994, Helen married retired Army Captain Edwin Heilman, and they continued to reside in Prospect Harbor until his death in 2006. Helen's mother Mary passed in 2007. In 2017, Helen was joined in Prospect Harbor by her daughter Rosemary.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Reverend Rosemary G. Burdick of Prospect Harbor; her son George F. Burdick, Jr., his wife Alba; and her three granddaughters: Sarah, Gabriella, and Alexandra Burdick of Annandale, NJ.
Services will be held at the Prospect Harbor Methodist Church on August 17, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Helen's request is that those who wish make a donation to The Ark Animal Shelter 60 Barber Lane Cherryfield, ME 04622.

Always enjoyed visits with Helen when I visited Ken Donnell. She and Ken shared a special bond of friendship. Helen will be sorely missed by her community and those who knew and loved her, including me
