SEARSPORT - SEARSPORT - Helen M. Brown, 89, died July 17, 2009, at her home. She was born May 22, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of William and Margaret Kunmann. After graduation from business college she worked in New York City, where she met her future husband, Harold F. Brown of Norway, Maine. They were married in 1942. After his 23-year career in the Marine Corps, they retired to his hometown. After his death in 1991, she moved to Searsport and became active in Searsport Congregational Church, serving as Women's Fellowship president for four years. Helen is survived by her two sons and their wives, Richard and Linda Brown of La Jolla, Calif., and Robert and Carla Brown of Searsport; five grandchildren, Ethan Brown, Molly Leding, Laura Bodensteiner, Steven Brown and Allison Brown; as well as four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Glenna Allen of Andover. Helen was predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Harold and Albert Kunmann. The family especially thanks Helen's personal care providers, Waldo County Home Healthcare and Hospice Services and Women's Fellowship for their love, kindness and support. Helen will be remembered by all who knew her for her sage advice, generosity and love. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, at Searsport Congregational Church with the Rev. Arline T. Larson officiating. A gathering for family and friends will be at Curtis Hall afterward. Interment will be beside her husband at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements are under the direction of Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport.
