Cambridge, Maine - Hazel M. Chadbourne, 96, died peacefully on August 21, 2025, in Caribou. Born a twin on April 19, 1929, in Palmyra, Maine, she was a daughter to Elmer and Elsie (Parsons) Lawrence.
She was educated in the local Palmyra schools and at Hartland Academy, before marrying Hugh C. Watson in Cambridge, Maine. She gave birth to a set of triplets, Clinton, Clarence and Chester, in 1947. After her husband died in 1950, she raised her children in Cambridge with a lot of help from her and his family. In 1953, she married Norris Chadbourne. Knowing the value of education, she taught her sons to read, write, and do arithmetic before they started school.
When her sons left home after graduating from high school, Hazel began working as an aide in a nursing home and later at Delongs of Harmony, but found her greatest joy as a homemaker. She loved crocheting, reading and cooking. After Norris died in 2014, she moved to Chester's house in Harmony. She lived there until 2017, when she moved to Presque Isle to be near Clinton. In 2021, she entered the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center (CRNC) in Caribou.
Hazel was predeceased by her parents; husbands; siblings, Dorothy, Myrtle (her twin), Carl, Christina, and Arnold; sons, Clarence and Chester; and her grandson, Derek Watson. She is survived by her son, Clinton (Pam) Watson of Westfield; her sister, Arlene Frati of Auburn; her sister-in-law, Rosemary Chadbourne of Cambridge; her daughters-in-law, Rachel Watson of Tuscola, TX, and Tini Watson of Indonesia; grandchildren, Marcus (Stephanie) Watson of Denton, TX, Christopher (Ana) Watson of Grand Prairie, TX, David Watson of Hamlin, WV, Donna (Keven) Dunkle of Abilene, TX, and Jay Watson of Tuscola, TX; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff of the CRNC for the care they gave her and a special thank you to her favorite nurses, Emma and Carrie.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A committal will immediately follow at the Chadbourne Cemetery in Harmony. Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Pittsfield.
