Hayden "Buzz" McCarthy Obituary

Mattawamkeag, Maine - Hayden "Buzz" McCarthy passed peacefully from the loving arms of his family to the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on February 1, 2026, after a period of declining health. Buzz was born in Island Falls on January 10, 1949, to Hayden P. and Margaret (McLaughlin) McCarthy, the fourth of six children.

Buzz was raised in and he called Mattawamkeag his home nearly his entire life. He made many deep and lasting relationships during his life, but none, perhaps as deep nor as lasting as was his relationship with Joyce (Moors) McCarthy. They married on January 29, 1966, and raised their three children, Hayden Jr. "Bub," Jodi, and Stewart, in a home filled with love and with laughter. Buzz was happiest when he had a house filled with kids, whether they were his own children with their many friends, his nieces and nephews, or his beloved grandchildren, all were welcome and he loved the energy and joy each of them brought to the home. Buzz was often seen with a smile on his face, attributable to any number of things: a sunny day, a good yard sale, winning a game of cribbage, or perhaps talking someone at The Crossroads into buying his lunch ... for example.

He will be missed by many, most of all by his family. Buzz is survived by Joyce (Moors) McCarthy of Mattawamkeag; his children, Jodi (Marc) Scott of Lincoln and Stewart (Jamie) McCarthy of Houlton; and his brothers, Clayton (Debbie) McCarthy and Royce (Lori) McCarthy of Mattawamkeag. Additionally, the apples of his eye were his eight grandchildren, Patrik, Kasey, Drew, Mason, Katie, Kayla, Emma, and Ella; as well as 10 beautiful great-grandchildren. Lastly, Buzz is survived by many nieces and nephews, and special friends from Mattawamkeag and beyond, all of whom he loved dearly. Buzz was preceded in death by his parents, Hayden P. and Margaret McCarthy; his sister, Donna Waddell, whom he adored; his special brothers, Wayne and Bernard "Bill" McCarthy; and his first born, Hayden B. "Bub" McCarthy Jr.

Buzz's family would like to thank the loving and caring staff at Madigan Estates Nursing Home in Houlton; though his final months were challenging, his care was always fantastic. Per Buzz's request, there will be no services. To share condolences and memories online, visit bowersfuneral.com
