Dedham, Maine - Hartley Russell MacFarlane Jr., lovingly known as "Mac," 64, of Dedham, Maine, passed away on April 18, 2026. Born on August 26, 1961, in Branford, Connecticut, he was the son of Hartley MacFarlane Sr. and Marion (Pirtel) MacFarlane.

Mac began his career as a handyman, volunteer firefighter, and electrician - always willing to lend a hand where it was needed. He later earned his CDL and went on to drive tractor trailer trucks, eventually achieving his goal of owning his own trucking business. Outside of work, Mac found joy in the little things. He loved taking rides in his truck or on his four-wheeler, camping, going to the casino, and spending time with family and friends. Mac was always able to strike up a conversation with anyone he met and was rarely seen without a cup of coffee in hand. He loved to offer advice or guidance - whether it was asked for or not - and did so with a genuine desire to help others.

Mac is survived by his partner of more than 25 years, Diane Sargent; his "daughter," Ashlee Sargent; his sisters, Geraldine DellaCamera and Heather MacFarlane; and his brother, Howard MacFarlane. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Mac also leaves behind his beloved pup, Brodie. He was predeceased by his father, Hartley MacFarlane Sr.; and his sister, Catherine J. Lay (MacFarlane).

A celebration of life will be held on May 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Penobscot County Conservation Association Clubhouse, 570 North Main St., Brewer, Maine. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Brewer Center for Health & Rehabilitation and Northern Light Hospice for the compassionate care provided in his final days. Mac will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
