Yarmouth, Maine - Harold E. Gallant passed away on December 25, 2017, after a short illness. He was born on December 11, 1925, in Orono, to Alfred and Beulah (Gould) Gallant.
Harold was educated in the Orono schools, graduating in 1943. While in high school he excelled in sports, earning letters in baseball, basketball and football. Basketball and football was where his love was. He was elected captain of both teams.
Following high school, Harold enlisted in the US Navy, where he served in the Armed Guard throughout the South Pacific and the Atlantic. He was recalled during the Korean War in 1950 and served on an amphibious assault ship.
Harold attended The Maine School of Commerce, now known as Husson College in Bangor. He chose the automotive field as his career, traveling and selling throughout Maine for 35 years. He later was sales manager for Parts Distributors serving the entire State of Maine. In his "so called" retirement, he worked many years part time at Casco Bay Motors.
Harold was a past-president of The Orono Jaycees. He was a long time member of The First Parish Congregational Church, The Masons - Casco Bay lodge and a 32nd degree member of The Valley of Portland.
Harold was predeceased in 2000 by his wife, Phyllis, after 52 years of marriage. He is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Norris, Laurie Mowatt, and Gale Clifford; granddaughters, Tracy Thaller, Rebecca Daly, Ashley Mowatt, Kaitlyn Clifford and Makayla Clifford; great-grandchildren, Taylor Wilson and Brooklyn Thaller, Cole Daly and Ciara Daly. He is also survived by his brother, Lawrence Gallant and wife, Naida, his nephews, Larry, Michael, and Alan Gallant.
Private services will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Orono.
