Harold was born in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of the late Charles Virgil and Ola Blood. He attended local schools and earned both baccalaureate and master's degrees from the University of Maine. He served as a Marine Fighter Pilot during World War II.
Harold worked for many years as teacher, coach and principal of schools in Brewster, New York, and in Millinocket, Monson, Sullivan, Farmington, and Bangor, Maine. He is the only person to ever hold the position of the president of both the Maine Elementary and the Maine Secondary Principals' Association. He also served as the Director of Adult Education for the State of Maine. Other than his work with children, his passions in life were his family, music, fishing, and boating. He played and sang with the Al Corey Band, sailed to Florida with his wife Betty (after retirement), played with his daughter Ola in the Colby Symphony, and organized the fishing trip to West Branch pond with sons Phil and Jim for the past 50 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty, daughter Ola Brownrigg, and sister Jane Francis. He is survived by two sons Philip and wife Margaret and James and wife Jolene, grandchildren Betsy Cross, Katie Townsend, Jeni Greer, Becky Metivier, Isaac Blood, Ben Blood, and Heather Lessard, plus several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Old South Congressional Church in Farmington, Maine on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 1:00 PM.
