Harland Arnold Spencer Obituary

Milford, Maine - Harland Arnold Spencer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the Maine Veteran's Home on September 28, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on March 22, 1941, to Leslie and Goldie (Mishou) Spencer, in Old Town, Maine, where he was raised and spent his formative years.

Harland was a proud graduate of Old Town High School and went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Catherine (Bouchard) Spencer. His dedication to his country led him to serve in the United States Navy, where he honed his expertise in working with steam boilers. After his service, he and Cathy settled in Milford where they proudly raised their three children, Jeffrey, Jennifer and Stephen.

Throughout his career, Harland worked tirelessly at the UMO Steam Plant, where his commitment and skill saw him rise to the position of foreman and then superintendent before his well-deserved retirement. Known for his hard work and dedication, Harland was respected by his colleagues and peers.

In his leisure time, Harland found joy in activities such as telling jokes, fishing many lakes in Maine, and wood-working (he built his own boat!). He was a man of many talents, building his own home after learning all of the necessary trades. Always lending a helping hand to those in need, he endeared himself to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Harland will be deeply missed by his wife of 62 years, Catherine; his children, Jeffrey, Jennifer (Abbott), and Stephen; his sister, Gloria Wadleigh; grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Spencer, Kyle and Ashley Abbott; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Harland's legacy of hard work, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him. May he rest in peace.

Harland requested a simple graveside service, which will be held at Old Town Lawndale Cemetery on Stillwater Avenue at 12:30 p.m. on October 20, followed by a gathering at Pat's Pizza at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, you may donate in his name to the Maine Veterans in Need (MVN) organization.
