Glenn F. Mitchell Obituary

Appleton, Maine - After a short battle with cancer, Glenn F. Mitchell passed away on February 5, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on August 11, 1954, and raised in Appleton, ME, and was a 1973 graduate of Camden-Rockport High School.

Glenn was a proud iron worker for more than 30 years, working alongside his father and brothers in the industry. He was a dedicated member of Union Iron Workers Local 496 and Local 7, where he built not just structures but lifelong friendships. His love for the outdoors was unmatched, he could tell hunting and fishing stories for hours, and he spent many days on the St. George River at his secret fishing holes.

He also had a deep love for animals, always making sure stray cats had food and water. Through the years, he had several beloved pets, including his cat, George, his dog, Rocky, and his pet squirrel, Oscar, all of whom he loved and spoiled. Glenn spent his mornings riding the back roads of Appleton with his brother, Clair, and Clair's dog, Jasper, enjoying the quiet of the countryside.

Glenn was predeceased by his father, Fernald Mitchell of Appleton; his mother, Mabel Mitchell of Appleton; his sister, Donna Mitchell of Concord, NH; his brother, Jeffrey Mitchell of Appleton; his sister-in-law, Mary Jane Mitchell of South Hope; and his nephew, Clair W. Mitchell of Appleton. He is survived by his brother, Elliot G. Mitchell of South Hope; his brother, Clair S. Mitchell and his wife, Terry, of Appleton; his nephews, Elliot H. Mitchell and his partner, Leah, of South Thomaston, and Adam Mitchell and his wife, Kali, of South Hope; his nieces, Heidi Taylor of Appleton and Megan Field of Winterport; several great-nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Chris Rogers.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Waldo County General Hospital for the exceptional care Glenn received during his final days.

A private graveside service for immediate family and closest friends will be held in the spring. Glenn will be remembered for his hard work, his love for the outdoors, and the simple moments he cherished most. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
