MADAWASKA LAKE and CARIBOU - MADAWASKA LAKE and CARIBOU - Gerald J. Holmes Sr., 70, died April 23, 2011, in Bangor. He was born Aug. 15, 1940, in Caribou, son of the late Herman and Rose (Williams) Holmes. Gerald was employed during the summer months as a roofing contractor for Aroostook Roofing, as well as Powers Roofing for many years. During the winter months he was employed by the civil service at Loring Air Force Base as a heater mechanic. He married Charlotte Beckwith, March 9, 1957, and was a longtime member of Caribou Assembly of God. Surviving, in addition to his wife of more than 54 years, Charlotte of Madawaska Lake, are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gerald Holmes Jr. of Bangor, Joseph Holmes of Caribou, and Randy and Lisa Holmes of McEwen, Tenn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and Timothy Doody of Woodland; one brother and sister-in-law, Delmar and Adessa Holmes of Madawaska Lake; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret Cote of Caribou, Delila and Merrill Anderson, and Gloria and Earl Pack, all of Caribou; three grandchildren, Gerald Holmes III, and Clair and Krystle Doody; one great-grandchild, Marshal Ouellette; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Holmes was predeceased by a son, Robert, in 2002; two brothers, Garfield and Elmer Holmes; and three sisters, Evelyn Tracy, Roween Tracy and Nadine Holmes. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, with the Rev. Philip Tracy officiating.
