Old Town - George A. Snedden, Jr., 91, died October 4, 2019, at a Bangor hospital with family and friends by his side. He was born April 20, 1928 in New Bedford, Mass., the only child of George A. Sr. and Bernice E. (Geddis) Snedden.
George was a graduate of Mount Herman Boys School in Mount Herman, Mass. and following graduation enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. He served on both a submarine and tanker in the warzone as a frogman. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Massachusetts to try his luck working on a scallop boat out of Fairhaven, Mass. It was during this time that he dated and married nurse Faith R. Lincoln in January 1950. George began a career in sales for Narragansett Brewing Company. He quickly moved up the ladder, teaching system installation and trouble shooting all around New England. George worked for Narragansett for over 22 years then he accepted an offer as a Marketing Manager for Pepsi Bottle and Miller, later known as Haffenreffer Bottling, for 21 years, retiring in 1998. He gained great respect from all that he worked with for the way George handled the people he worked for and with.
Outside of his working career, George was active in his community as a member of the Masonic Lodge: Blue Lodge and Vassalboro Lodge for over 50 years and became an Anah Shrine of Bangor member in 1964. As a Shriner, he was active with the circus and help found the clown section for Anah temple where he was known as Rolo the Clown. Since 2000, he has been a member of The Q club and since 1954, he has been a member of BBB Hunting Lodge. He will be remembered for his carvings and making of fishing rods. For over 40 years, George sent his custom rods all over the country as the Lucky Scot company.
Many years after the death of his wife, Faith, Lucille (Stormann) Harris and George were introduced to each other by her long-time friend, Madeline Belcher, who thought they would 'hit it off.' They did and were happily married for 27 years.
He is survived by four children, son George "Lucky" Snedden III and his wife, Brenda of Alpena, MI and their children, George Snedden IV and Erika Snedden; Scott Snedden and his wife, Beth of Augusta and their children, Shawn Snedden and Heidi Snedden; daughter, Holly Shaw and her husband, Tom of Madison and their children, Robbie Marshall and Brittany Spaulding, daughter, Heather McGowan and her husband, Wayne and their children, Jesi McGown, Jenni McGowan, and Mike McGowan; four stepchildren, Dianne and Stuart King and their children, Aaron and Adam; Allan and Bonnie Harris and their son, Steve; Tom Harris, Brian and Pamela Harris, many great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Faith, in 1975, and second wife, Lucille, in 2017.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at the Old Town United Methodist Church, 726 Stillwater Av., Old Town, followed by a social gathering with light refreshments.
Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairhaven, Mass.

George was a friendly and happy man whom I came to know when his wife Lucille was at Orono Commons. He was a kind friend to all and could tell a good story. He loved his family very much and will be missed by many. RiP George.

George was Circus director when I started working the circus. He was a great, caring, kind, patient man. Always enjoyed seeing him when he would come to visit us at the circus after he passed the torch.
