Trenton - George McFarland Hopkins, 90, beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend of Trenton, ME, passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, with dear family by his side. He was born on Oct. 1, 1928, son of Ernest & Dorothy (Young) Hopkins.
George was Trenton's unofficial Mayor and native whose family had a long history of serving their community. Over his long valued life he was a farmer, a logger, a pilot, a service man and proud veteran, a scout leader, a past Master Mason of Warren Lodge #2 and a dual member of David Hooper Lodge, member of the Trenton Grange, member of the Trenton Historical Society, a businessman, past president of his local chamber of commerce, selectman, sign officer and appeals board member, chair for many years of the Hancock County Airport Advisory Committee, a friend, confidant, surrogate Dad to many, and first and foremost a happy family man.
George was predeceased by the love of his life, Pat. He is survived by his daughter and son, Patti Ann Billings and Ernest Hopkins of Trenton; grandson, Benjamin and wife, Genevieve M. Billings, of Lamoine; great-granddaughter, Tabatha Black of Clinton, CT; and many nieces, nephews, and friends across the miles. He will be dearly missed by so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Trenton Historical Society, 1007 Bar Harbor Road, Box 132, Trenton, ME 04605, and or The Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, 59 Oak Point Rd, Trenton, ME 04605.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Trenton ME at 1:00 p.m., and his celebration of life to immediately follow, at the Trenton Town Hall on October 27, 2018. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
