Detroit - Genevieve C. Emery, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, in Pittsfield. She was born on September 28, 1939, in Blaine, Maine, the daughter of the late Lee and Cassie (Garrison) Gustin.
She attended elementary schools in both Mars Hill and Blaine and graduated from Newport High School with the class of 1957. She was employed as a correctional officer at Somerset County Jail for 27 years.
Genevieve had a deep love for her husband, Richard. They were married over 50 years. She was proud of her children and grandchildren. Her passion was singing and playing the piano. She was very social and also liked to dance. She enjoyed decorating, gardening and having tea parties. She loved God, was faithful to church and always enjoyed fellowshipping with His people.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Lasselle of Pittsfield, Bryan K. Emery and his wife, Kristi, of Detroit and Dirk C. Emery of Detroit; grandchildren, Brandon Lasselle and wife, Stacey, Alishia Lasselle, Julie Lasselle, Jacob Hunt, Hannah Emery and Slade K. Emery; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, Richard Emery; her brothers, Gordon, Gerald, Lawrence (Toots), Harrison and Aldine Gustin; and her sisters, Hilda Townsend, Lillian Adair and Alma Cowen.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Bagley officiating. A gathering will follow the service at the funeral home. A committal will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, at the Detroit Village Cemetery, Detroit, Maine.
