Patten - Surrounded by the love of his four daughters, Frederick Moses Pond, 89, of Patten, Maine peacefully passed from this life to the next on September 3, 2019 at Northern Light EMMC in Bangor, Maine. Born on May 9, 1930 he was the last surviving child of Charles and Letepha (Albert) Pond. Called 'Mose' by his high school friends, and then later on by his grandchildren, he was a lifelong resident of Patten and his memories and recollections of growing up and living in Patten were vivid. A walk through Patten with him would become a history lesson as he recalled the blacksmith shops on Main Street, teams of horses on their way to Matagamon and the sound of a Lombard log hauler as it made its way through the woods. Mose graduated from Patten Academy with the class of 1951. Shortly after graduation, he went to work for the Atlas Plywood Company. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Anne Marie Bouchard, and together they raised four daughters. In 1958 he went to work for the Great Northern Paper Company; retiring in 1987 as a paper inspector. After retiring Mose spent many hours in his garden raising vegetables and flowers. He especially loved his beautiful dahlias. He was a life-long communicant of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Patten where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. His interests were many: collecting bottles, repairing artwork, caning chairs, refinishing furniture and he loved to sing and dance. Born into a musical family, Mose was an accomplished clarinet player and he also played a mean harmonica. In later years he was able to travel and enjoyed trips to Quebec, New Brunswick, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Florida and Colorado. Above all, his favorite activity was spending time with his daughters and their families. If you were lucky enough to spend time with him you could count on lots of laughter, music, teasing, delicious food and love. He was a gift to his daughters and he was loved beyond measure by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His was a life well lived and for us a life well loved. He was predeceased by his wife Marie in 1998; brothers, Albert 'Pondie' Pond and his wife Glenys, Lawrence 'Jim' Pond and his wife Irene, John Pond; and a sister Jean Adams. He is survived by his daughters and their families: Theresa and Darrell Nicholson and their children: Joshua and Danielle Barrett, their sons Logan and Liam Barrett, Abram and Allison Barrett all of Bath, Maine; Caleb and Nicole Barrett of Fredericton, New Brunswick and Alana Nicholson of Aurora, Colorado. Elizabeth and Bruce Anderson and their children: Clarie and Andrew Logan of Wilmington, Delaware, Laura Anderson of Fort Collins, Colorado and Jesse Anderson of Fort Collins, Colorado. Marcia Pond Anderson, of Patten and her daughter and son-in-law, Anne Marie and Anthony Coleman, and their children Moses, Nino and Nicolina Coleman of Canton, Massachusetts. Renee and Ali Bahmani, and their daughter, Asal Marie, of Gorham, Maine. He leaves several generations of nieces and nephews who were all near and dear to his heart, a very dear sister-in-law, Norma Pond of Patten, a brother-in-law, Ronald Twist of Lincoln, and a much loved aunt, Velma Albert of Pittston. The family wishes to thank the staff of Millinocket Regional Hospital, Katahdin Nursing Home, Northern Light EMMC in Bangor, Northern Light Visiting Nurses, and Cathy Pond-Evans, Maria Duffy-Martin and Dani Moody for their compassionate care. Also thank you to anyone who took some time to stop and visit with him in his final months. Friends may call from 6-8 PM, Thurs, Sept. 12 and 10-11 AM, Fri, Sept. 13, 2019 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Patten followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM, with Father Kent Ouellette officiating.

To all of Fred's family, Tim and I would like to express our sincere sympathy and tell you how much we liked your Dad/Grandfather. He was always so sweet and pleasant anytime we would happen to meet him in the town of Patten. He used to walk by our house when he was doing his daily walks, and that was nice to see. He was a good man and father, and loved his family very much. Now he is with his beloved wife Marie. Through memories, family, friends, and your faith, we hope you all find peace and comfort. My deepest condolences to Fred's daughters and families. When I think of the years spent going to St Paul's the memory of seeing Fred and Marie come flashing through. They were so kind and loving, always chatting with my Mom and Dad, Francis and Albertine. I'm sure they are having more chats now. How awesome that Fred and Marie are united again with their loving Father!

My sincerest condolences on your dad's passing. I've not seen him in several years but can recall the many hours I spent chatting with him at GNP as we worked together in the mill. He was a true and humble man, one to be looked up to and admired by all of his coworkers. The memories made will leave you with a sense of comfort that he is with you in spirit for all the days and years ahead.

Fred Pond was a wonderful man. My only wish is that I would have had more time to talk, laugh and share memories, of beautiful days gone by. He was a courageous man. I admired his love of "just living in the moment"! To his daughters, you have my deepest sympathies. Your father loved you as much as is possible. You all returned that love and he left this world knowing that.
I would like to share these two thoughts that might help carry you, in your time of grief... "Be the things you loved most about the people who are gone." "Grief is the price of great love." I am grateful to have known him, I will miss him and I loved you, Fred Pond.
