Frances V. McFarland
She attended Nasson College, graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing and became a nurse in the U.S. Army's Cadet Nurse Corps.
Frances married Guy C. McFarland in 1947 and settled in Frankfort where they became active in their community. She was a charter member of The American Legion Post 138 Argonne in Winterport; and served as a deacon, choir member, organist, and secretary of the church guild at the First Congregational Church for more than 25 years. She also was the board secretary for the Waldo Pierce Reading Room for two decades. Frances had a sixteen-year career in industrial and home health nursing in Waldo County.
Frances was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. " Mamie's" chocolate mayonnaise cake was a family favorite! She was always warm, caring, and interested in all that was happening.
She truly enjoyed life, her family and her many friends. She was very loved and will be greatly missed.
Frances was predeceased by her husband, Guy, in 1993 and daughter, Diane (Libby) Hammond in 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Freese; son, Doug and daughter-in-law, Kathy McFarland; son-in-law, Charles Hammond; sister-in-law, Gail Day; brother-in-law, John McFarland; grandchildren: Shannon and John Nichols, Angela and Joe Cahill, Amy and Patrick Johnson, Doug and Dena McFarland, and Matt Libby; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Alden, Benjamin, Harrison, Jackson, Samuel, Sullivan and Elizabeth.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 16, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the First Congregational Church in Frankfort. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 146, Frankfort, ME 04438 to help repair the church steeple. This would please Frances as the church was a big part of her life. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services. mitchelltweedie-young.com
