Houlton, Maine - Frances (Gates) Grant, 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Madigan Estates surrounded by family and friends. She was born October 11, 1927, in Millinocket, the daughter of Willis and Edna (Knight) Gates.

Frannie trained as a nurse in Houlton in the 1940s and later served as regional manager of Aroostook Home Health Care, retiring in the 1990s. She devoted her life to caring for others both professionally and through her community service. She was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, where she sang in the choir, served on Vestry, and coordinated Rotary Meals well into her 90s. She also served on the RSU 29 School Board. Frannie enjoyed gardening, volunteering at the Cary Library, leading water aerobics in Woodstock, golfing, and playing bridge. Her guiding rule for a long life was simple: don't stop moving.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Aubrey O. Grant Jr.; her sisters, Margaret MacDonald, Joanne Larlee, and Joyce Michaud; and her brothers, Bill Gates Jr. and Robert Gates. She is survived by her sons, Andrew Grant and his wife, Laure, of Scottsdale, AZ, and their children, Kevin (Riley) and Erin (Jordan Mazer); and Fred Grant and his wife, Renee, of Houlton, and their children, Connor, Benjamin, and Ellie; as well as several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A service of remembrance will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd on Friday, September 19. Calling hours at 11 a.m. service at noon with social time immediately following. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
