SEARSPORT - SEARSPORT - Evelyn Young Robbins, 86, passed away peacefully Sept. 4, 2009, with her family by her side at her home, after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 6, 1923, in Fayette, daughter of the late Fred E. Young and Celia Pratt. She graduated from Searsport High School in 1942 and the University of Maine, Orono, in 1946. She worked as a social worker for the Maine Department of Child Welfare and taught second grade at Stockton Springs Elementary School for more than 20 years before retiring in 1987. In retirement Evelyn and husband, Carl, made several trips to Europe with their special friends, Peter and Barbara Pearson, as well as many trips around the country with her family. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Anchor Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Searsport; was a member of the Maine Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed Tuesday morning coffee with "Marlene's Ladies." Evelyn loved knitting, quilting, playing bridge and spending time with her family at their camp on Swan Lake. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carl; daughters, Rebecca Raines and husband, Edgar, of Alexandria, Va., Deborah Plourde and husband, Charles, of Searsport and Cynthia Dalton and husband, Peter, of Northport; and grandchildren, Katie Bailey and husband, Andrew, of Belfast, Jessica Plourde and partner, Craig Butler, of Searsport, Edgar Raines of Alexandria, Va., Laura Benner and husband, Corey, of Arlington, Va., and Andrea Coulon and husband, David, of Manchester, N.H. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport, where services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, with the Rev. James Barclay officiating. Interment will be afterward at Gordon Cemetery, Searsport.
