Northport, Maine - Erwin Paul Flewelling of Northport entered his Savior's rest on October 24, 2022. Erwin was born on Dec. 6, 1935, in Crouseville, ME, to the Rev. G. Frederic Flewelling and Avis (Crouse) Flewelling.

Erwin married his high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Ellen Lois Finch of Northfield, MA. He served in the army, worked for the USPS, and had a distinguished career in the U.S. Customs Service, rising to the rank of Port Director.

Erwin was known and loved for his punny sense of humor, his gentle spirit, and his strong faith in God. He had a remarkable talent for carving and painting wildfowl and songbirds. Many of his pieces won "Best in Show" at the state level. He loved fishing and spent many hours relieving Big Lake of its salmon and bass.

Erwin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ellen; and children, Donald Flewelling of Presque Isle, Lois Walton of Caribou, Robin Switzer of Hermon, Noelle Carle of Dayton, Timothy Flewelling of Addison, Sandra Flewelling of Prospect, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Erwin was predeceased by his son, Neal Flewelling of Northport.
