Northport, Maine - Ellen Finch Flewelling, 89, of Northport, passed into her Lord's care on Aug. 23, 2025, after a long illness. Ellen was born Feb. 9, 1936, to Sarah and Cortland Finch.

She grew up in Northfield, Massachusetts, and attended Northfield School for Girls. During her high school years, she met Erwin Flewelling. They married in 1954 and soon began their family of seven children. Ellen cared for her kids and taught them life skills and to love God. She was gentle, cheerful, curious, chatty and lived a life of faith. She loved people and was active in her church and various clubs wherever she lived.

Ellen loved to feed people. She worked summers at Big Lake Campmeeting as head cook, and she fed her family hearty, delicious meals and desserts. After they were grown, she hosted large family dinners with apparent ease.

Big Lake was a second home for Ellen, where she and Erwin were involved with campmeeting and also spent significant time at their cottage. Their time at the lake gave their children a legacy of serenity, comfort and joy.

Ellen enjoyed sewing, crafts and reading. She was rarely without a pile of books by her couch or bedside. She was a librarian in Van Buren, Maine, for several years. When Erwin retired, they attended craft fairs and artisan events, selling his bird carvings and her own woodburning creations.

Ellen's lively spirit often came out of hiding in the last few years when she would burst out with humming and random songs. Even though her mind became clouded, the old hymns would surface when prompted by her pastor or her children.

Ellen was predeceased by her son, Neal; her husband, Erwin; and her siblings, Carleton Finch, Ed Finch, and Arlene Reynolds. She is survived by two sons and four daughters, Don Flewelling of Presque Isle, Maine, Lois Walton of Aiken, South Carolina, Robin Switzer of Hermon, Maine, Noelle Carle of Dayton, Maine, Tim Flewelling of Addison, Maine, and Sandra Flewelling of Northport, Maine; and Neal's widow, Tracy Flewelling of Lehigh Acres, Florida. She had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held in October in Crouseville, Maine. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Big Lake Campmeeting Association or Sunrise Christian Church in Big Lake Township, Maine.
