Norway, Maine - Eleanor Morrill passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. Ellie was born on May 6, 1926, in Brownville, Maine, to Peter and Hulda (Johnson) Olson. She was the daughter of Swedish immigrants, her father from Jamtland and her mother from Varmland.

She attended school in Brownville, graduating high school in 1943. After graduation, Ellie worked as a secretary in Portland, before returning to her hometown, where she continued her secretarial work. In 1944, she began dating her future husband, Walter Reid Morrill. Reid was drafted into the war and when he returned, they were married on July 2, 1946. While living in Brownville, they had their three children: Breta Marea, Ronald Reid and Jeffrey Charles. They moved to Van Buren, in 1956 for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and then to Caribou in 1959, before settling in New Sweden in 1968.

Ellie and her family were active members of their church, first at Faith Lutheran Church in Caribou and then Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church in New Sweden, where she played the organ and led the choir at both churches for many years. Ellie was a member of WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and was very active in her community. She was a member of the New Sweden Historical Society, the New Sweden Extension, Cary Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Caribou Choral Society. She also wrote for the Aroostook Republican about New Sweden news. Ellie and her husband, Reid, participated in many activities such as square dancing, cross-country skiing, and golfing, usually bringing one or more of their granddaughters along with them. Ellie was very proud of her heritage and also worked part-time along side her good friend, Monica Soderberg, at Monica's Scandinavian Gift Shop in Caribou.

Ellie was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, W. Reid Morrill; her son, Jeffrey Morrill; her sister, Gertrude (Olson) Towne; her brother, Bernard Olson; and an infant brother; her half sister, Anna (Garrish) MacLeod; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles Morrill, Harriet (Morrill) Chase, Gwen (Morrill) Hogan, Joe Morrill, and Sandra (Morrill) Genthner; nephew, Joey Morrill; and niece, Holly (Morrill) Swazey.

She is survived by her daughter, Breta (Morrill) Howe and husband, Gary, of Norway; her son, Ron Morrill and wife, Judy, of Bangor; her four granddaughters, Erin Howe of Hudson, FL, Anika (Howe) Munster and husband, Brett, of Hudson, Arica (Morrill) Jordan and husband, Justin, of Orrington, and Jennifer (Morrill) Olsen and husband, James, of North Berwick; her four very special great-grandchildren, Beckett and Landon Munster, Henry Jordan, and Eleanor Olsen; her nieces and nephews, Peter Towne and his wife, Jeanette, Larry Morrill and his wife, Donna, Terrina Nicholson, Marty Hogan, David Morrill, Brent Morrill, Lori Lhereux, Kevin Genthner, and Scott Genthner; special great-nieces, Cherie Towne and Cindy (Towne) Carter; and numerous other great-nieces and great-nephews.

We will be having a graveside service at Brownville Village Cemetery in the Spring at the convenience of the family. Her family would like to thank the nurses at Androscoggin Hospice Care for all their help.
