Elaine (Conant) Henris Obituary

Keller, TX, Texas - Elaine (Conant) Henris, 85, passed away on March 18, 2026, following complications from a fall. She was born on January 16, 1941, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the third of six daughters born to John and Gertrude Conant.

She was raised on a farm in a close-knit family with deep roots spanning seven generations in Northern Maine. After briefly attending college in Boston, Elaine set off on what would become a defining adventure - driving cross-country to San Francisco. It was in California that she met and married her husband, Jim Henris, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. In 1969, they settled in Winter Park, Florida. Elaine was a devoted member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park and dedicated much of her life to service through the Orlando Diocese, where she served as Director of Family Life. She led Engaged Encounter retreats for more than 25 years, with Jim often at her side, guiding and supporting hundreds of young couples as they prepared for marriage. After her retirement, Elaine continued her commitment to others by volunteering at Winter Park Hospital. Known for her warmth and generosity, Elaine was the consummate hostess. Her home was always open, with an extra place set at the table for friends, neighbors, and clergy alike. She formed lasting friendships, including a cherished ladies' bridge group that met for more than 40 years. In 2018, Elaine and Jim moved to Keller, Texas, to be closer to their daughter. In her later years, Elaine faced Alzheimer's disease with quiet strength and grace.

Elaine is survived by her three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Elaine will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to family and community, and the kindness and hospitality she extended to all who knew her.

A small family service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elaine's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Catholic Charities of Central Florida.
