Edgar Byron Pert
Searsmont - On April 20, 2019, Edgar Byron Pert, 85 passed away peacefully at Harbor House in Belfast. He was born in Belfast, Maine on July 5, 1933, the son of Lida Pert Hemenway.
Edgar grew up in Searsmont and attended Searsmont and Appleton schools. Edgar was a Korean Veteran in the army from 1953 to 1955. Edgar had many different jobs over the years. He was the Searsmont Town Constable for many years, worked in the woods for Harlan Drinkwater and owned his own Junkyard and wrecker service. His biggest passion was working on cars and rebuilding antique cars.
Edgar met and married Paulette (Monteith) Pert in 1965. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in February of this year. He was the oldest of five children and was predeceased by his mother, step father Benny Hemenway, Two brothers Bennie Hemenway Jr. of Searsmont, Steven Hemenway and sister-in-law Katherine both of Searsmont, brother-in-law Clyde Hanscom of steep falls, and 2 grandchildren Caitlyn Pert of Holbrook, Massachusetts and Don Richards II of Detroit Maine.
Edgar is survived by his wife, 3 children Eric Pert of Searsmont Maine, Shani Colby and Partner Don Richards of Detroit, Maine and Edgar Pert Jr. and wife Maureen of Holbrook Massachusetts, sister Marion Hanscom of Steep Falls, brother Andrew Hemenway and his wife Stella of Tuscon, Arizona. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Jessica Barfield and husband Charlie of Searsmont, Joshua Colby and Partner Vickie Pooler of Waterville, Tiffany Weston and husband Travis of Canaan, Maine, Kerry, Kimberly, Christopher and Richard Pert all from Massachusetts. He is also survived by many great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren, nieces nephews and cousins.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Riposta's Funeral Home in Belfast. A memorial celebration will be held at his home at a later date.
