Naples, Florida - Donald "Bruce" MacGregor, 87, of Naples, Florida, and longtime summer resident of Pushaw Lake, Maine, passed away on July 8, 2026, in Naples. Bruce was born on April 14, 1939, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Donald Henry and Margaret Larancy MacIntyre MacGregor.

Bruce lived a life defined by faith, family, friendship, and a lifelong passion for coaching and mentoring others. Bruce shared 65 wonderful years of marriage and survived by his beloved wife, Christine Lawrie MacGregor. Together they built a family rooted in love, heritage and unwavering support. They had three wonderful children, Betsy, David, and Jill, and raised them in Maine, which was home until they became residents of Glen Eagle, Naples, Florida, when they both retired and developed their passion for golf. They were a fierce couple of golfers and enjoyed their last round together in January of this year.

Bruce attend Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, CT, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in education from Springfield College in 1966, his Master of Education from Salem State University in 1968, and his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Maine in 1972. Before arriving at Husson (College) University, he taught and coached at Reading High School in Massachusetts. He went on to spend 50 years at Husson University as a professor and coach, where he is best remembered for his 26 seasons as head men's basketball coach, amassing win/loss 554-185 and leading the (Braves) Eagles to seven NAIA National Championship Tournament appearances. He also coached the men's golf team across two stints spanning more than two decades, winning dozens of tournaments and multiple conference championships. He coached baseball and held the position of director of athletics, 1978-1984, during his tenure at the university. After stepping down as head golf coach, he continued as an assistant coach for many more seasons, staying involved with the game well into his 80s. He treasured the relationships that he

developed throughout these years with all his student athletes, assistant coaches and Husson community, which was so evident by the outpouring of compassion this year.

In recognition of his decades on the sidelines, he was inducted into the Husson Sports Hall of Fame, the NAIA Hall of Fame, the Maine Sports Hall of Fame, the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame and his 1967 basketball team, under his coaching, Reading High School Hall of Fame.

Bruce cherished his family gatherings and holidays, which almost always included a competitive game or two. Such as, The "Toilet Bowl" football game at Thanksgiving, 4th of July Olympics, a Wiffle Ball match at his mini-Fenway field in Hampden, Maine, or just a vibrant game of "Spoons." He continued setting up events in retirement with his Glen Eagle community with "Bloody Mary Sunday Golf," Tiki Boat excursions for a birthday or costume-themed event at his home with his friends. He loved making traditions and one was his annual trip with his high school friends from Fairfield, CT, to watch the Boston Red Sox play until last summer when they surpassed the game for a Downeast lobster feed at their home on Pushaw Lake, Maine. Bruce loved life and made every day full events for him and Chris. He was proud of his family, friendships and his "players."

Bruce is survived by his wife, Christine, of Naples, FL; his son, David and wife, Ethel, of Azusa, CA; daughter Jill St. Peter Buzzell and husband, Jeff Buzzell, of Ellsworth, ME; son-in-law, Calvin "Chip" Webb of Otis, ME; grandchildren, Cameron Webb, Gordon Webb, David MacGregor, Sidney "Sid" St. Peter, Kelsi MacGregor Derby and Bruce St. Peter with their spouses and children; sister, Bonnie (MacGregor) and her husband, Dr. John Larkin, of Stonington, CT, and their family; many great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog, Naples. He was predeceased by his daughter, Betsy MacGregor Webb; and by his parents, Donald and Margaret MacGregor.

The family would like to extend our appreciation to the friends from Glen Eagle that extended support during his final months, The Gardens at Terracina Rehab facility in Naples, Florida, for all the health care provided to Bruce. Special Thank you to, Julia, Devora, Yanni, Mirabelle, Scott and Physical Therapy team. The family will be forever grateful to Emily who went above and beyond with her care for "Coach." Emily would make special trips happen so Coach and Chris could spend time with each other during his final month. A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at Husson University in the Gracie Theater on September 12, 2026, at 2 p.m. All are welcome.
