Bangor, Maine - Dennis "Denny" Alonzo Hamel, 81, of Bangor, Maine, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 7, 1944, Denny was the youngest of ten children born to Effie and Ralph Hamel - and the last surviving, closing a remarkable generation of strength, humor, and resilience.
In 1965, Denny enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He later continued his service as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, a chapter of his life that shaped him with discipline, honor, and a deep sense of duty. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 30 years to a career as a machinist at General Electric, where his steady hands and strong work ethic earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him.
Denny married the love of his life, Betty Morrill, and together they created a family where he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his daughter, Tammie Hamel and his son, Thomas Morrill, who he now joins in peace.
A skilled builder and lifelong tinkerer, Denny found great joy in constructing and fine-tuning race cars with his son, Tim. He proudly raced his car, Black Betty, a project that brought him immense pride. He loved the outdoors, camping, and could often be found washing and caring for his cars.
Denny is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; his children, Timothy Hamel and wife, Michelle, of Greeneville, and Tracey Hamel of Bangor; and his adored grandchildren, Lindsey Willey and husband, Brian, of Hermon, Lauren Rioux and husband, Johnny, of Levant, Andrew Hamel and his mom, Madonna Devlin, of Levant, and Sophie Martin of Hermon. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy, Penelope, Reece, Archie, and Gunner.
Denny will be remembered for his steady presence, his ability to fix anything, his pride in his work, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the lives he helped shape.
