Grand Isle, Maine - Dennis Dale Goodridge, 70, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Grand Isle that he called "his little piece of paradise" on October 22, 2022.

Dennis was born on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1952, in Hartland, Maine, the twin-son of Lester R. and Virginia (Inman) Goodridge. He attended local schools in Pittsfield and graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1970 followed by Thomas College in Waterville with the class of 1974.

Dennis grew up in Pittsfield and in the early years from 3rd to 8th grade delivered newspapers for the Pittsfield Advertiser and the Morning Sentinel. While at MCI he ran cross-country, was a member of the Ski Team, including the 1968 State Class A Championship Ski Team, and ran on the track team. At graduation from MCI, Dennis, along with his twin brother, were recipients of the coveted Master's Cup, the first time in cup history that two individuals were awarded the trophy.

Dennis was a past member of the Universalist-Unitarian Church in Pittsfield and participated in the church gatherings and youth programs. At Thomas College, he was deeply involved in clubs and was the editor of the school newspaper.

For twenty years or more, Dennis was involved with the Kiwanis and Key Club programs. He held numerous positions including being a New England Lt. Governor representing Pittsfield and numerous clubs in the area. His greatest pleasure was acting as Advisor to the MCI Key Club. Every summer at the Kiwanis Karnival he would guide the club at the lemonade stand which became an annual treat to many a carnival goer.

In April of 1984 at the New England District Key Club Convention in Hyannis, MA, he was awarded the most prestigious award "The Key of Honor" by then New England Key Club Governor Eric Thompson (MCI 1984).

Dennis was involved with the MCI Alumni Association for many years and could be seen working around the campus during the annual alumni reunion every summer. You would see him setting up tables for banquets to helping Paul Bertrand with the chicken barbeque. He loved attending Florida reunions and had plenty of stories from them that he enjoyed retelling for years.

During these years he was employed in the banking industry first starting with Federal Trust in Skowhegan. He became branch manager in several locations during the 80's and through bank mergers he ended with Merrill Bank which is part of Bank of America. In the early 90's, he finished his banking career after a few years of opening in the Greenville branch.

Dennis' most enjoyment came from traveling. He traveled heavily around New England almost every weekend in the late 70' and 80's representing Kiwanis and the Key Club. He and Darrell traveled all over the United States and most recently enjoyed Orlando with as many as 10 trips a year.

For a number of years Dennis and his brother traveled often on cruises to the Caribbean. He often told others inquiring about cruises that it was the best vacation one could take. He told them you can do as little as you want or go all out and be wild 24/7. He had traveled to most Eastern Caribbean Islands from Bahamas all the way to Aruba and many in between.

Dennis loved his Christmas shows and in his final months and days there was always a Christmas movie playing in his room. It was great that the Roku channel had them to pick from year round. He couldn't see the shows anymore but he was definitely listening to them.

He is survived by his siblings: Larry and Sally Goodridge of Pittsfield, Linda and Michael Doody of Melbourne, Florida, Tracy Goodridge and Kelly Cookson of Holden, and his twin brother, Darrell Goodridge of Grand Isle and Pittsfield; nieces: Christine Bearor of Buxton, Sara Dayton of Pickering, Ohio, and Theresa Carr of Widefield, Colorado; nephews: Jason Doody of Melbourne, Florida, Kane Cookson-Goodridge of Holden, and Larry Gene Raleigh and his pet dog, Milton, of Denver, Colorado; uncle, Ernest Inman of Potomac, Maryland; his special rescue cat, ResQ, who has been by his side for the past 8 years; several close long-term friends: Matthew Parent of Atlanta, Georgia, Jonathan Eastmond of St. Georges, Bermuda, and Jeffrey Joseph of Bridgewater and Roseau, Dominica; and his close friend from childhood, Linda Sweet Thornton of Pittsfield.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Virginia Goodridge.

Special thanks go out to Phil and Diane Chasse of Grand Isle for their caring for Dennis when Darrell had to leave town for medical trips to Waterville. Also special thanks to Ann Marie Bouchard Cyr of Madawaska for her daily care of Dennis during his end of life. She was so dedicated to his care and provided moral support to Darrell during this time as well.

A very special thank you goes to Brandon Luke Tardif who has been like family for a long period of time, through the good and bad. Brandon has been by Dennis' side every day since he took sick, caregiving and providing comfort, moral support, and love.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating. A committal will immediately follow in the Village Cemetery, Peltoma Ave., Pittsfield. A reception will follow the committal and all are welcome to attend.
