Addison, Maine - Daniel A. Thompson, 78, U.S.A.F. retired, died June 19, 2022, in LaGrange, ME. He was born October 13, 1943, in Machias, ME, the son of Harry and Myrtle (Boone) Thompson.

While a member of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), Dan and Jan met in September 1962, at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington, just prior to the Cuban Missile crisis. Three days after their wedding, Dan was transferred to an unaccompanied Air Force Station tour in Newfoundland followed by service in Montana and Nebraska, at which he became a member of the SAC Elite Guard. After Nebraska, Dan continued as the 101st Security Police Squadron Commander, Maine Air National Guard, Bangor, ME. Dan retired in 1984 from the Maine Air National Guard as a Captain. He is credited with a total of 40 years of military service. Upon retirement from his military service he went on to become the Events Coordinator at the Bangor Auditorium and Civic Center in charge of entertainment, refreshments, security, and supervision of the part-time staff. Dan was a member of Rising Virtue Masonic Lodge #10, Anah Shrine, Washington County Shrine Club, and Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club.

After nearly 59 years of marriage, he is survived by his wife, Jan; and their children, Charles and Erica Thompson, of Pahrump, NV, Michael and Maranda Thompson of Levant, and Chari Briggs of LaGrange; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, David and Shelba Thompson of Addison, Timothy and Mary Thompson of Axton, VA, and Patricia and Frank Lapila, of Killingworth, CT; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside funeral service will be held on July 27, at 12:30 p.m. at Acadia National Cemetery, 1799 U.S. Rt 1, Jonesboro, ME, with Michael Gleason officiating. Following the service family and close friends are invited to an after service potluck finger-food gathering at the South Addison Community of Christ Church.
