Daniel G. Hanson Obituary

St. Albans, Maine - Daniel G. Hanson, Mariner, passed away Oct. 3, 2024, due to a brain bleed. He was 72 years young. Daniel was born on April 27, 1952, in Hartland, Maine.

He graduated from Nokomis Regional High School and went on to Maine Maritime Academy and then Calhoon MEBA Engineering School in Maryland. He sailed as Chief Engineer with the Merchant Marine to places all over the world. The good stories were endless. One of the best was rescuing a boatload of Vietnamese refugees ... who, years after, found him and thanked him.

Daniel was a proud and loyal Mason. He was Past Master of Corinthian Lodge in Hartland, Past High Priest of Stevens Chapter in Newport, Past High Priest of Piscataquis Chapter in Dover-Foxcroft, and a member of many other Masonic organizations. In the Grand Chapter of Maine he held the following positions: District Deputy, Grand Scribe, Grand King, Deputy Grand High Priest and Grand High Priest.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; brother, James and partner, Penny; stepson, Free Martin and wife, Heidi; stepdaughters: Amy and husband, Donnie, and Charley and husband, Jake; four very special grandsons: Free, Tristan, Landon and Hunter; two lovely granddaughters, Kayla and Raven; nieces, Karen Fick, Karmen Hinman and husband, Marshall, and Kateena Hook and husband, Jim; nephew, Thomas Fick; and many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, countless friends, and his Masonic brethren. He was predeceased by his parents, Brian and Glenice; brother, Mark; and sister-in-law, Beate.

Daniel was a Christian man and had a deep faith. He was not a saint and never claimed to be.

A Masonic service for family, close friends, and Brethren will be held at a later date at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. Care has been provide by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Pittsfield. To leave a message of kindness or to share a memory, please visit shoreynichols.com.
