Foley, AL, Alabama - A Presque Isle, Maine, native, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2024, at 90, in Portland, Maine. Born Jan. 20, 1934, Dana lived a life filled with adventure, passion, purpose, and impact.

He married Carolyn (née Labbe) Shaw, mother of his children, and later Lorraine (née Welch) Shaw, both predeceased. He is survived by his children, Michael Shaw, Stephen and Sheri Shaw, Anne Shaw and Thomas Cameron, Marcia and Rich Ciorra, John and Minyi Shaw; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lorraine Tibbits, Anneta Russell, and Maxine Buck; predeceased by brother, Darrell Shaw.

A SAD#1 PIHS athletic standout, he had a competitive spirit that would define much of his life. Earning his master's degrees in Education, becoming director of Caribou Vocational School and president of the Maine State Principals' Association. A Master Maine Guide, he led transformative Allagash Waterway trips for more than 50 years, forging lasting friendships. A conservationist, he helped preserve the Allagash's beauty. As a humanitarian, he traveled globally with a generous spirit. A licensed pilot, Dana's adventurous spirit soared.

Services will be held at St. Mary's Church in Presque Isle on July 8, 2025, at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at Governor's Restaurant.
