Cynthia May Davis Obituary

Old Town, Maine - Cynthia May Davis, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and matriarch, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born on June 17, 1943, in Old Town, Maine, Cynthia lived a life defined by love, strength, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. Cynthia met the love of her life, John "Big John" Antony Davis, at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was a nursing student and he worked as an orderly. Their meeting marked the beginning of a remarkable love story that spanned nearly 60 years of marriage. Together they built a life full of adventure, partnership, and deep family roots, sharing a passion for travel - especially cruises - and creating countless cherished memories along the way. A proud and strong matriarch, Cynthia was affectionately known as "the boss." Her presence filled every room, and her guidance shaped generations. She had a joyful spirit and a playful side, especially when it came to card games with family, trips to the casino, and a bit of lighthearted gambling - where her luck often seemed to be on her side.

Cynthia had a love of horses and often attended horse shows and races with her family. She also dedicated many years to education as an elementary school teacher at Dr. Lewis S. Libby School, where she inspired and nurtured countless students, leaving a lasting impact that extended far beyond the classroom.

She is survived by her loving children: Pamela Davis and her husband, Randy Wakefield, Jennifer Granholm and her husband, Jeffrey, Glenn Davis and his wife, Heather, and Melissa Davis. She was a proud grandmother to Cody Wakefield, Jasmine Wakefield, Cortney Perry, Ella Davis, Connor Spencer, and Tanner Spencer; and a cherished great-grandmother to Stella, Scarlett, John, Lincoln, and Theodore. Cynthia will also be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Antony Davis; her sisters, Elizabeth Hotham, Shirley Libby, and Nancy Leavitt; and her parents, Beulah and Almon White.

Cynthia's legacy is one of strength, warmth, humor, and fierce love for her family. She taught those around her how to live fully, love deeply, and always hold your ground. Her memory will be forever treasured by all who knew and loved her.

A service for Cynthia will be held on Saturday, January 17, at Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town with visitation starting at 2 p.m. followed by a funeral service and reception. A burial will take place in the spring at Lawndale Cemetery.
