Clayton Enoch Varney

Humble, TX - Clayton E. Varney died March 19, 2019 in Humble, Tx. He was born in Island Falls June 5, 1923, the son of Harry and Millicent (White) Varney. He graduated from Island Falls High School in 1942 and from the New England Institute at Boston, Mass. in 1949. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific area with the U.S. Army Air Force. After his discharge in Dec. 1945, he owned and operated a grocery store in Island Falls for 8 years. He then moved to Concord, N.H. and was employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. as a district agent until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Whittier Congregational Church of Island Falls, a member and president of the Katahdin Lions Club, a member of the Island Falls Fish and Game Club, a charter member and adjutant of King-Mitchell Post 7529 VFW, and a 50 year member of Island Falls Masonic Lodge #206. He was a former selectman for the town of Island Falls.
He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Sandquist and her husband Ray of Humble, Tx. A son, Calvin M. Varney of Concord,N.H. A daughter -in-law, Carol Varney of Winterport. Eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. One sister, Leithea Porter of Crystal.
He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Priscilla (Morse) Varney, a son Clayton (Nick) Varney of Winterport and a sister Eva (Varney) Hulbert of Patten.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Island Falls Cemetery.
